Sheldon (1940) identified 3 body types, endomorphs, ectomorphs, and mesomorphs, and associated specific personality traits with each type. This research examined whether there was a difference among these types in the personality variable of extraversion. Five randomly selected individuals from each category (total N = 15) were assessed on extraversion by a blind rater (someone unaware of the research hypothesis). The means for each group are given below, with higher scores indicating more extraversion: Endomorphs Ectomorphs Mesomorphs 22.2 17.6 19.8 SS within = 72.0 SS between = 48.0 At the = .05 level, do these data indicate that there is a difference between people of differing body types in extraversion? If so, which body types are significantly different from which other one(s)?
