1. Can you tell me about generosity, empathy and kindness? What relationship does it have in service industries, your work, and approach to life?

1. Picture this. I am interviewing you for a job. It is the job of your dreams; you have envisioned yourself here for a long time! It is a great organisation, that allows you to do things that inspire you. We have just sat down; I look over at the table and smile at you. You return the smile. My first question for you is "Have you ever heard of the term hospitalian? Do you know what this means and where it comes from?" What is your response?

Link your ideas together and link your awareness and knowledge of key individuals who gave you the ideas to build on. 1. We discussed the ideas and ideals and philosophies and approaches of numerous individuals throughout our modules and workshops. Pick one - your favourite - and tell me why they had such an impact on you. Summarise their key ideas for me in the process. And tell me how you use those ideas - or could use those ideas - in your work.

1. In our workshop, we spoke about "YOLO", an acronym for You Only Live Once, a philosophy for life that teaches us to live to the fullest every day. The concept is very similar to the famous verses of the poet Horace, carpe diem! However, Roman Krznaric explains the importance of developing a liveable planet to our children and encourages us to "think long" in a short-term world.

What do you think is more important? And why?

Long Answer Question

1. I have often asked you to reimagine the hospitality experience. Technological advances have played a significant role in reimagining hospitality. As Dave Berkus said, "hospitality technology vendors and users must learn to be agile and adapt to change or suffer a loss of leadership or even relevance". However, we have spoken about the importance of human centric hospitality, evoking emotion, and connection. It was about smiling, empathy, kindness. I even directly asked you, "could tourism and hospitality createe a better world?".

I want you to develop an argument explaining your viewpoint (backed up with references and critical analysis) considering ONE of the following viewpoints:

SIDE A: Technology is the future of the hospitality experience and must be leveraged to remain relevant

OR

SIDE B: Hospitality is a human centric approach that cannot be leveraged through technology

Note: It is time to pull everything together and become "the creator for something greater" (Laptev, 2014). It is easy to "sit on the fence" and provide an answer that examines both approaches, however, I want you to develop an argument for one viewpoint. Focus on a side you feel strongly about. And somewhere where the tourism and / or hospitality industries can learn from to develop their own philosophy in understanding what is important for strategic growth.
