Should Tennessee abolish the common law doctrine of employment at will?

Montana does not follow this common law doctrine. Instead, it follows a standard set by a statute, the Montana Wrongful Discharge From Employment Act. That statute provides that once an employee has completed the established probationary period, the employer needs to have "good cause" for termination. The probationary period is now one year, not six months.

As far as I can determine, the Montana statute does not impact the right of the employee to terminate the employment at any time and for any reason. It does not create a legal duty to give notice to the employer.
