Discusses the main tools of econometric analysis, and the way in which they are applied to a range of problems in social science. Emphasis is on using techniques, and on understanding and critically assessing others' use of them. Students who do well in this course will be able to: read critically relatively sophisticated quantitative/econometric analysis carry out econometric analysis understand and explain the connection between assumptions made when using regression analysis and the output from statistical packages. use the Stata statistical package and interpret Stata regression output There will be a problem set for each class designed to practice material covered in class and develop Stata skills. Work on the problem sets can be done in groups, but each student must submit the problem set and answers in his/her own words with his/her own Stata output
