Potassium nitrate, KNO3, is a compound that is used to seal small wounds, remove granulation tissue and treat tooth sensitivity. Consider an experimental evaporation-crystallization system, shown below, that is set up to produce potassium nitrate crystals from a solution. A 200kg/hr solution composed of 25% potassium nitrate (by mass) is fed to the evaporator. After evaporation, the solution has 55% potassium nitrate by mass. After crystallization, the mother solution, now 28% potassium nitrate by mass, exits through one stream. A stream of pure potassium nitrate crystals exits through another outlet of the crystallizer. a. Briefly state the assumptions and arguments needed to analyze the system as an open, steady state, non reacting system. b. Use the diagram of the system to label the streams. Set up a calculation table for the system using the labeled streams and insert the known values in the table. Use the calculation table you have set up for the questions in (d) and (e) but distinguish the calculated values by highlighting or underlining from the given values. c. Compute the number of (unconstrained) degrees of freedom in the system and argue whether the problem is closed or not. d. Determine the rate of evaporation of water. Write out the mass balance equations you use Define the notations used. Report your answer in kg/hr. e. Determine the flow rate of pure potassium nitrate crystals. The same instructions as (d) apply. Report your answer in kg/hr
