The Canadian cellular market is a near monopoly since three of the largest companies control the market. More information on this matter is available in the article: Canada has 30 million wireless subscribers, 90 percent of market still controlled by Rogers, Bell and Telus.

While there is the appearance of some competition, other smaller cellular companies are actually owned by the big three. For instance, Bell owns Virgin mobile, Solo and others. TELUS owns Koodo, and Rogers owns Fido.
