MediCare Solutions
Enterprise Network Design
Traction Solutions is a medium sized organization with operations in 4 cities of South Africa; Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, Durban and Cape Town. Currently each site runs its operation independently and is configured with an ad hoc network.
The existing network lacks scalability, security, and efficient management, leading to frequent downtime and poor user experience.
Due to challenges in delays in production and other technology related issues, the IT Manager would like to integrate the whole network infrastructure and have a centralized administration which would stream line all operations of the entire company.
He has approached you to help design a network architecture that would satisfy these needs.
You team has come up with the logical design shown below:
The following are some of your findings:
1. The organisation will use 2960(24 port) switches across all cities
2. Johannesburg's location needs 3 VLANS i.e. VLAN 10(Finance), VLAN 20(Sales) and VLAN 30(HR)
with equal ports per vlan per switch.
3. Cape Town's location needs 2 VLANs, VLAN 100(Warehouse) and VLAN 200(Manufacturing).
4. The DHCP Server (192.168.10.4/24) and the Mail Server (192.168.10.3/24) will reside at the Bloemfontein
office.
5. Durban's location only has the office LAN in 192.168.20.0/24 subnet.
6. All computers on the network receives their IP addresses from the DHCP Server in Bloemfontein i.e.
including all vlans.
7. All locations are to be connected via Point-to-Point leased line.
8. RIP v2 has been chosen as the routing protocol.
9. The following configurations are to be made on the routers:

7. In Johannesburg and Cape Town, Inter VLAN routing is to be configured for cross functional communication.
6. Users of all regions except the Factory VLAN will have access to the WebServer and Mail server.

All Computers are to connect to the web server (200.20.20.10) residing on the internet. See image below
2.1 Make necessary configurations to allow all devices in each location to get IP addresses from the DHCP at the Bloemfontein Office and verify that the devices received IP addresses from DHCP.
(8 marks)
2.2 Verify that the PCs in different vlans in JHB and CPT offices can communicate
(4 marks)
2.3 Configure Vlans as specified for Johannesburg and Cape Town offices and allow for inter vlan communication. Assume in JHB switches ports 0-8 is for the finance vlan, ports 9-16 is for sales and port 17-24 is for HR, in CPT ports 1-12 are for Warehouse and ports 13-24 are for Manufacturing. Gigabit ports are for trunking.
Assign ports into their respective vlans and verify your configurations
NB the computers must get their IP addresses from the DHCP Server.
(10 marks)
2.4 Configure the Web Server to allow for http connections from the internal network. Verify your configurations by displaying a web page on the server as shown.
(5 Marks)
2.5 Install and configure Wireless LAN Controller to manage Access Points across the network/ Company. Configure WLC with 2 SSID, STAFF-WIFI and GUEST-WIFI.
(8 marks)
2.6 Configure appropriate security settings on the Wireless networks.
