Since the late 1960s, American federal, state and local law enforcement agencies have engaged in what has been referred to as the "war on drugs", largely because of the proven harmful effects that illegal drugs and abused legal drugs have had on individual users, on families and communities, and on society in general. It is likewise true that illegal drug activity has contributed to other criminal activity. Knowing these facts, criminal justice professionals, including law enforcement investigators and prosecutors, should be knowledgeable about those illegal drugs commonly used and prescription drugs commonly obtained illegally and abused.

1. Provide explanations of each of these three drugs: oxycodone, methamphetamine, and heroin, to the following questions:

• What type or class of drug is oxycodone, methamphetamine, and heroin (i.e., is the drug an opiate, stimulant, opioid, hallucinogen, or sedative?), and what does each drug look like on the street? 
• How is each drug taken/ingested? 
• Where is each drug grown or manufactured?
• What are the SHORT-TERM effects of the drug, and what are the LONG-TERM ADVERSE effects, of each drug?
