Since you just took the midterm, you have an easier lab in this folder. You will be computing the Youth, Aged, and Total Dependency Ratios for the US, and the states of Florida, Maine, and Utah using data from the 2022 American Community Survey 5-year file. You will then be submitting your three formulas, the results table, a paragraph with your interpretation, and the bibliography. If you remember, the dependency ratios are the ratios between those dependent on the potential working population and the potential working population. The Youth or Child Dependency Ratio=Population (0-14)/Population(15-64)*100. The Aged Dependendency Ratio=Population (65+)/Population (15-64)*100. The Total Dependency Ratio=Population (0-14)+Population (65+)/Population (15-64)*100. As we discussed in lecture several weeks ago, the population 15-64 is the potential workforce, not the actual workforce, and it's possible those over 65 are still working, and many do not enter the workforce until after college. However, this gives a picture of whether there are enough people in the workforce to support those dependent on the workforce, as well as the general makeup of families. If for example, a state has a higher youth dependency ratio, families tend to have more children. If the aged is higher, then there are a lot of senior citizens in that state. For this lab, you need to provide the formulas, your results, a paragraph, and the bibliography. You do not need to write a complete lab essay
