SITXWHS004 Assessment.v1.0.docx

Section C: Performance Activity

Objective: To provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate the required performance elements for this unit.

This activity will enable you to demonstrate the following performance evidence:

  • Establish and implement a complete work health and safety (WHS) system that covers the following components:
  • adequate facilities for the welfare of employees
  • appropriate management of incidents or accidents and notification to WHS government regulators
  • availability of information, instructions, training and supervision that ensure employees' health and safety
  • safe working systems, environment, and equipment and tools
  • Evaluate and identify improvements to WHS practices within the above system
  • Develop comprehensive WHS system documents to support above system
  • Demonstrate management practices that must be established and maintained for compliance of above system with state or territory occupational health and safety (OHS) or WHS legislation

Answer the activity in as much detail as possible, considering your organisational requirements.

  1. As a workplace activity (or simulated workplace activity), establish a complete work health and safety system that covers:

  • Facilities for the welfare of employees, e.g. rest rooms and working areas
  • Management of incident and accidents within the working environment, including when notification is required to work health and safety government regulators
  • Health and safety information, workplace instructions, supervision and applicable training for employees
  • Working systems and premises which are safe for all to use.

2. Evaluate the system that you have created and assess if any improvements could or should be made; ensure you have documented your work.

3. Develop the work health and safety system documents that are needed to support your WHS system, and the management practices that will need to be established and implemented to ensure its compliance.

This activity will need to be observed in the workplace by the trainer/assessor or third party, and all observations recorded in the observations and demonstrations checklist document.

[We have set up a thorough work health and safety (WHS) system that includes the following elements as part of our commitment to ensuring a safe and healthy workplace for all employees:

1. Facilities for employee welfare: Our workplace has sufficient facilities for employee welfare, including bathrooms, break rooms, and clean, well-lit, and well-ventilated working environments. Also, in order to encourage proper posture and lower the chance of injury, we have supplied ergonomic seats and workstations.

2. Handling of events and accidents, as well as government WHS regulator notification:

The reporting of occurrences, investigations, and corrective measures are all part of our well-defined and efficient incident and accident management procedure. Every employee receives training on the significance of reporting any incidences or near-misses as well as the steps to take in an emergency. Also, we have determined which government regulators should be notified in the event of a significant accident or injury.

3. All employees receive thorough health and safety information and instructions on their first day of work, as well as ongoing training and supervision to ensure they are aware of the hazards and risks connected with their line of work. Information, instructions, training, and supervision are all readily available to ensure employees' health and safety. Moreover, we offer specialized training for high-risk tasks including handling dangerous chemicals, working at heights, and manual handling.

4. Environment, tools and equipment, and safe working practices have all been put in place to guarantee that all work is done safely and effectively. These measures include safe work practices, risk assessments, and job safety analyses. All tools and equipment are frequently inspected and maintained to make sure they are safe for use by personnel and in excellent operating order.

We assessed the efficiency of our WHS system and found a number of areas that needed improvement. They consist of:

1 Employee safety training should be given more often, especially for high-risk activities.

2 putting in place a system for recording and monitoring dangers and near-misses in order to spot trends and take preventative action.

3 inspections of the workplace on a regular basis to look for any risks and take appropriate action.

4 creating a comprehensive WHS management strategy that details our dedication to WHS and the duties assigned to each employee.

The following documents were prepared to assist our WHS system:

1 WHS policy statement: In this document, we express our commitment to ensuring that every employee works in a safe and healthy environment and we lay out our WHS goals and objectives.

2 Plan for managing WHS: The tasks and responsibilities of every employee are listed in this paper, which also describes our WHS management system.

3 Procedures for incident and accident management are outlined in this paper, and they include reporting, investigating, and taking corrective action in the event of an incident or accident.

4 Safe work practices: This guide offers detailed advice on how to complete particular jobs in a safe manner.

Procedures for detecting hazards and evaluating the risks they pose are outlined in this publication, which also contains a risk matrix to aid in decision-making.

We have created the following management procedures to make sure that we are in conformity with state and territory occupational health and safety (OHS) or WHS legislation:

1. WHS officer appointment: To monitor the implementation of our WHS system and guarantee compliance with OHS/WHS law, we have hired a dedicated WHS officer.

2. We regularly audit our WHS system to make sure it is working properly and in compliance with OHS/WHS regulations.

3.Training and development: To ensure that our staff are knowledgeable about their responsibilities under OHS/WHS regulation and can contribute to a safe and healthy workplace, we offer continual training and development opportunities.

In conclusion, our WHS system is built to give every employee access to a secure and healthy workplace. We're dedicated to accomplish our goals and adhere to all the OHS/WHS laws, we continually improve our system and procedures. We understand that the active involvement and dedication of every employee is essential to the success of our WHS system, and we promote honest criticism and open communication to spot potential areas for development.

The trainer/assessor or another party will observe and demonstrate our WHS system at work, and all observations will be noted in the checklist document for observations and demonstrations. We are convinced that our WHS system will show that we are dedicated to giving every employee a safe and healthy workplace and to abiding by OHS/WHS regulations]
