Size an orifice meter for service on a 2.5 inch (2.54 cm to an inch) schedule 40 pipe carrying water with a maximum flow rate of 180 GPM (take 1 gallon to be 3.8 litres) and a minimum flow rate of 60 GPM. Assume the line pressure is 150 psig (take 6895 N/m2 to be equivalent to 1 psi). Using SI units, orifice meter discharge coefficient value Cd is 0.61. (a) Evaluate the suitability of selecting a DP cell with a range of 0-2 psi. Calibrate the DP cell so that at 180 GPM the pressure drop is 1.33 psi (i.e. 67% of the full range) (b) Evaluate the suitability of selecting a DP cell with a range of 0-5 psi. Calibrate the DP cell so that at 180 GPM the pressure drop is 3.33 psi (i.e. 67% of the full range)
