Sketch the P&ID and the block diagram of the experimental setup to be used in
the lab component of this course, which is located in SEB 1081.
Please clearly describe the process identifying the manipulated variable, the
disturbance and the controlled variable. On the block diagram mark the nature of
the signal around the control loop, i.e.C, flow rate, 0-5V,3-15g, etc. On the
block diagram, show the computer where the PID controller resides (LabView),
and the Data Acquisition (DAQ) system.
Assuming that the control valve is air-to-open (Fail Close, FC), determine if the
controller is Direct or Reverse acting.
An exothermic reaction is carried out in a stirred tank reactor. Cooling water is
supplied to the reactor jacket to avoid reaction run-away conditions. Determine
the control valve action (fail open or fail close) and the controller action (direct-
acting or reverse-acting).
