SMART GOAL for business administration major and future careers.

1. Specific > What are you going to do?

2. Measurable > if you can't measure your goal, how will you know if you have reached it? Our more specific goal above is not measurable--we need to be more clear about how we are defining "something kind". Otherwise, it is easy to cheat and let yourself slip by with something like "Oh, I let that guy go first at the stop sign. That was pretty kind"

3. Achievable > is your goal something that is actually possible for you? If not, it isn't a goal, it is an ambition or a dream. Nothing wrong with that, but we are looking at goals. So, don't save the world, but take a specific, measurable, achievable step as your first goal.

4. Realistic > Don't choose something that is not within your realm of control. Similar to achievable, your goal should be something you can do, balanced against the other constraints of your life, like time, money, energy, etc. So, don't commit to a goal of volunteering 30 hours of your time a week, if you don't have 30 hours a week to spare.

5.Timely > When will you accomplish your goal? If you don't set some time limits, you won't get it done. When will you start, when will you finish? "I'll start next year" is not timely nor is it specific. Pick some dates, then stick to them!
