Problem Solved? Applying Social Psychological Concepts to Address Real Issues
For this project, you are asked to identify and propose solutions to a "real world" issue through a social psychological lens. You may identify any issue that is most interesting to your group, although you might consider choosing an issue at the local (Vancouver) level.Links to an external site. The format of this project is up to you (it may be a paper, infographic, newsletter, letter to a council member, podcast, informational video, etc.), but you should ensure to...
- Describe and evaluate the problem, using social psychological principles to unpack the issue (what might be the social psychological causes for or factors that maintain the issue)? You should also describe why you (your team) selected this issue; why is it important to you personally and why it is important at a societal/community level?
- Propose a plan to address the issue, informed by core concepts presented in our course. In your proposed plan, you should explain how the social psychological concept(s) support your suggestions for addressing your chosen issue. You should also consider the limitations of your plan, through the lens of social psychology (i.e., what are the limitations of the social psychological concept you are drawing from and how might that impact your proposed solution(s))?
- In your evaluation of the problem and/or your plan to solve the issue, you should briefly describe at least one relevant example of recent social psychological research (no earlier than 2010) focusing on this issue (or an similar topic).
- Briefly summary how you would evaluate the success of the proposed plan.
