The Learning Log is a critical thinking tool used to assist students in the practical application of social work knowledge, values and skills and to enhance the student's professional growth as a social worker. Logs should consist of:

A. Conceptualization: Apply knowledge to the practice-based situation you have described. What professional issues or underlying social work knowledge, values, and/or skills can be applied to enhance understanding of the situation? Use the Eight Core Program Objectives as listed in the Field Manual.

B. Action: Think critically about the situation. What would you do differently if confronted with that same situation again? Which action seems best to you now and why do you think it is a better response? If you decide that you would not handle the situation differently, why not? Support your position.
