South Africa hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which took place from 11 June to 11 July, which was the 19th FIFA World Cup. South Africa is a good case study for this question as it discusses the poltical, economic and cultural factors affecting the hosting of international sporting events, additionally they/ve gotten benefits through this event. Firstly, they have obtained the economic benefits, and according to a study by Grant Thorton, through the event, it contributed approximately R93 billion (South African currency - Rand) to the country's GDP. Secondly, it attracted over 300,000 foreign tousits, and created a large amount of jobs, which also created a short-term boost to employment. (Is this a good answer to the "Case study of costs and benefits for one country hosting an international event" or am I missing something?)
