SPSS I ASSIGNMENT ASSIGNMENT OBJECTIVES:
This assignment is designed to give students an opportunity to:
(I) Gain familiarity with using SPSS to analyze data
(II) Practice performing basic descriptive statistical analyses
(III) Practice interpreting basic descriptive statistics
THE ASSIGNMENT: you will be using SPSS to analyze a data set provided by the Professor. You will need to run the appropriate statistical tests to answer the provided questions. Please type up your answers to the questions in Word. Your answers can be succinct, but they have to be your own responses and reflect your own work since this is an individual assignment. Make sure to follow the examples and discussion covered in class. Tip: Remember consistent rounding! You will also have to submit your complete SPSS output file to Canvas. Keep in mind that every SPSS output file has unique identifiers and properties; if these are missing from the submitted file, points will be deducted. THE SITUATION: You work for a marketing firm in the entertainment industry. For this assignment, you will be comparing moving ratings between two popular platforms: IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes. IMDb relies heavily on user ratings, while Rotten Tomatoes aggregates both critic reviews and audience scores. Your job is to assess differences in measures of central tendency and dispersion between platforms. The goal is to identify patterns, discuss notable trends or differences between the two platforms, and assess the quality of the data.
Based on your analysis, you should draw conclusions and provide recommendations in leveraging these platforms for marketing campaigns and promotions.
VARIABLES: IMDb_2021 the ratings from IMDB reviewers for the top 150 TV shows in 2021 (0 to 100). RT_2021 the ratings from Rotten Tomatoes reviewers for the top 150 TV shows in 2021 (0 to 100). IMDb_2020 the ratings from IMDB reviewers for the top 150 TV shows in 2020 (0 to 100).
RT_2020 the ratings from Rotten Tomatoes reviewers for the top 150 TV shows in 2020 (0 to 100). IMDb_2019 the ratings from IMDB reviewers for the top 150 TV shows in 2019 (0 to 100).
RT_2019 the ratings from Rotten Tomatoes reviewers for the top 150 TV shows in 2019 (0 to 100). IMDb_2018 the ratings from IMDB reviewers for the top 150 TV shows in 2018 (0 to 100).
RT_2018 the ratings from Rotten Tomatoes reviewers for the top 150 TV shows in 2018 (0 to 100).

1. Provide the averages of IMDb ratings for 2020 and IMDb ratings for 2019. Based on the data, what conclusions can you make? (2 points)
2. Provide measures of central tendency (mean, median, and mode) and measures of dispersion (range [min/max], standard deviation/variance) for:
a. Rotten Tomatoes (RT) ratings for 2020. (1 point)
b. Rotten Tomatoes (RT) ratings for 2019. (1 point)
c. Based on the data, what conclusions can you make? (2 points)
