Staffing Plan Assignment Guidelines

Instructions: The student will develop a staffing plan that may be completed in a way that makes sense for them. It must show 30 days of a staffing plan for an imaginary unit. This assignment must be submitted in Excel format. The student will show in this plan if they are using 8- or 12-hour shifts and include how many full and part-time FTEs it took and/or prn/staffing personnel. The student will need to include a statement about the difficulty of this assignment. Use of prn or part-time staff is permitted. This assignment purposely does not have parameters so that the student can understand the resources it takes to staff for safety and realize the cost. Specific staffing information: You have an 8-bed ICU unit that requires 4 beds one nurse to one patient every day, every shift. The other 4 beds can be 1 nurse to 2 beds. However, you have had some requests from staff. All of these are full-time.

Norman wants a one-week vacation from the 1-8^th

Janice will be on maternity leave for the entire month.

Holly will be out for 4 days in the middle of the month for FMLA (surgical procedure).

Jake wants off the 15-30^th to travel to Europe.

You need to tell how many nurses you use to staff the unit for one month, 7 days/week/ 24 hours a day. Use any combination of staffing you wish and any shifts. The total number of staff including full-time, part-time, and PRN staff must be addressed. I need the total number and you must cover for the staff above.
