State vs. Federal Health Policy

No unread replies.No replies.

Arguments have been made that states are better equipped for health policy as opposed to federal policy because they have a better understanding of their respective populations. In addition states oversee licensing of healthcare providers and healthcare facilities as well. On the other hand, those in support of Federal health policy say that states lack the funding to be able to address often complex healthcare issues and that states are ill-equipped to account for domestic migration from other states in their health policies. (Domestic migration is a term to account for when people move from one state to another state. Some times domestic migration is based on economic opportunities [think silicon valley] and other times it is based on demographics [like retirees moving south for the weather and low cost of living].

What do you say? Should health policy be restricted to state governments as opposed to federal government or should the federal government oversee health policy?
