Statistical thinking, classes of variables and types of sampling PART 1

Statistics is said to be a science that is applied in many areas such as social sciences, medicine, accounting, economics, finance, marketing, and information systems, among others. Explain and present an example of how statistics are used in the area of information systems. You can use the databases of the Virtual Library to obtain information on this subject. (5 points)

Part II -Population

We define population as the complete set of all individuals, things or events that we want to investigate with respect to a particular situation. And, we define the sample as a subset of the population. Based on the concepts of population and sample; and from what was studied in the first module, it establishes a population and a sample that are related to the topic of people who have solar panels installed in their homes. Below is an example related to NUC students so that you are clear about what you are going to do in this exercise. (4 points)

Part VI-Types of Sampling (Definitions from Anderson et al. 2019) In each of the following exercises, identify the type of sampling to which the premise refers: random, systematic, convenience, stratified, by cluster: a) The sample is homogeneous and provides results as precise as those of simple random sampling, but with a smaller sample size. b) It tends to provide better results when the elements within the clusters are not similar. c) A professor conducting research at a university may use student volunteers to constitute a sample simply because they are available to her.
