Stats of Pop Culture HW5: Confidence Intervals NAME: For this assignment, we're going to focus on a subgenre of pop culture that we haven't focused as much on this term as others: travel. Remember when people used to travel for fun? Ah, memories. We are going to stay within the United States for this assignment in order to avoid certain map issues that happen on google sometimes (I'll show you what I mean in class). 1) Select five places within the United States that you think would be fun to visit. It's totally ok if you've been to one (or more than one) of them before - just think of where you'd love to travel to right now if money, time, and pandemics were a non-issue. The more specific the better as you'll be measuring distance on a map for this assignment (using google, hopefully). Don't just say a state, for example, as we would have no idea where in the state you want to go. List out the places here: 2- Determine the distance between where you are in the US right now and those 5 places (so you'll have 5 numbers total here). You can either do this as the crow flies or via road trip directions (your call). If you are not currently in the US, use JWU as your starting point (30 Chestnut St. Providence is fine). List all of those distances here (please indicate which distance is which): 3- Construct a 95% confidence interval based on your data from #2 and explain in words what it means. Please show your work. As usual if you'd like to do this with pen and paper, you may do that and take a picture of your work to send to me via e-mail. 4- Go to google and do a search for "random number generator." Using the one that comes up on google, set the minimum for 1 and the maximum for 100. Then run it 5 times and list the five numbers that come up here: 5- Go to this website and look up the five places that correspond to those 5 numbers you had randomly selected in part 4: https://www.touristmaker.com/blog/100-sights-in-usa/ List them here: 6- Repeat the process for part 2 (calculating distances) for the five locations in part 5. Stay consistent with your method from part 2 ("as the crow flies" or "road tripping"). List the distances here: 7- Construct a 95% confidence interval for those 5 distances in part 6 (show your work once again). Explain in words what it means. 8- Comparing the two confidence intervals you've created, how similar (or different) do they appear to be? What reason(s) do you believe lead to that similarity or difference? Any bias on either a personal level or from the website?
