Steno's Law of Superposition can be applied to the Grand Canyon rocks in that blank. You can trace the same layers across large areas of the canyon. The lower formations are older than the younger formations. The formations were laterally continuous before rivers cut down through the layers. The layers were formed in horizontal orientation when sediments were deposited
