Steven Vignette: Ethical Dilemma II
Steven, a 12 year old Mexican American male, is referred to you by his teacher at your school-based counseling site. The teacher states that Steven seems worried all the time. He is tense, cries easily, and seems afraid of most new activities that are introduced in the classroom. He often goes to the nurse's office complaining of an upset stomach. In your initial session with Steven, he discloses that he doesn't like to be away from home because he worries that his mother and little sister will not be alright without him there. Steven's father is frequently away on business trips. Steven shares with you that, when his Dad is gone, he (Steven) tries to stay up all night to keep watch, holding on to his baseball bat for protection. Steven begs you not to share this with his parents.
