Introduction:
Individuals can become competent in ensuring how a certain organization will benefit from the project that they are working on by utilizing strategic project management approaches. These approaches can be found in a variety of different sources. They are also able to establish specific approaches that, with the assistance of which, may assure efficiency within the project outcomes to keep a profitable edge in the project that is currently being carried out (Shenhar, 2004). To ensure that the organization is developing appropriate strategic approaches to project management, it is essential to make use of various project methodologies that can assist in appropriate development within the structuring of the project. This will ensure that the organization is developing appropriate strategic approaches. This helps to ensure that appropriate strategies are established for the functioning and execution of the project and that individuals are working on the project that has been appropriately assigned to them. The project management team needs to design specific project management strategies to ensure that the various activities associated with the project are carried out efficiently and effectively. This is because the project management team has multiple other facets on which they need to concentrate their attention when carrying out a particular project. The adoption of strategic approaches to project management is beneficial to the project management team in that it assists them in overcoming certain obstacles that they would otherwise be forced to face if they had not correctly created a project management plan at the beginning of the project (Patanakul, P. and Shenhar, 2012).
Within this report, the researcher has highlighted various aspects of the project, such as the strategic plan built for the completion of the project, the effectiveness and profitability it contributed to the project, and how different individuals associated with the project made appropriate use of the strategic plan that was built for the execution of different aspects of the project. The assignment will be based on the project that was completed, which was the construction of KKH Phase-II Havelian-Thakot (118.057 KM) as a part of CPEC. Because this is a first-hand encounter, the researcher will find it much simpler to elaborate on the various parts and experiences that they were able to record from the specific study. Basing the discussion on personal experiences is a lot simpler and more appropriate. This is because it enables an individual to share how they took certain steps and initiatives in the project at hand, which is something that would not be possible. The following was the project's primary focus in terms of its goals: Havelian-Thakot Expressway will be built to a total length of 120.12 kilometers. There are four lanes from Havelian to Mansehra (39 kilometers), but only two lanes between Mansehra and Thakot (81.12 km).
Management and delivery of project:
This was a project that was undertaken in the KRP province by a team of professionals, who to make traveling from Havelian to Thakot initiated the particular project. The project held immense importance for different institutions and individuals residing in the KPK province, as with the help of this project it was possible for individuals to travel safely between the two locations. Also, in terms of strategic value, it became possible for the government to present a positive image of the province in the minds of other individuals around the world.
Project environment:
In such projects, the project environment plays an important role because it assists individuals and the project team in identifying certain factors that are contributing to the exertion of the project management approaches. This is an important aspect of the role that the project environment plays in such projects. These include elements that can be found within as well as outside the organization, and they are in a position to and can affect how the project as a whole is carried out (Sense, 2007). The weather, the contractors, the clients, raw materials, and the government policies that are built regarding such industries are the primary factors that are present in the environment and can impact the execution of such projects. Other factors that can have an impact include raw materials. It has been seen that in the instance of the specific project, many aspects, the majority of which are those that are listed above, were recognized and noticed to be playing a role in carrying the project to its completion. This has been the case ever since it was first noticed. It is often difficult to make changes to the work that has been done on such large construction projects due to frequent changes in weather conditions. These changes can make it more difficult to see, cause damage to certain raw materials, and change the work that has been done because of the damage. For this reason, having proper strategic management plans makes it easier for the project management team to recognize potential challenges that they might face when putting such plans into action, and it also makes it simpler for them to construct initiatives with the assistance of which they might be able to potentially eliminate such challenges from the effective implementation of the project (Thorpe and Karan, 2008). Without adequate planning, the possibility of adverse weather delaying the entire timetable that would have been put up for this road building might have caused the schedule to be delayed or amended, as necessary, by the prerequisites. Additionally, it is essential to keep in mind that KPK is a mountainous region. This is because, as a result of the frequent weather shifts that occur in this region, there is a high probability that catastrophic events, such as floods caused by the melting of glaciers, will occur. As a consequence of this, individuals may experience a great deal of difficulty when attempting to finish the project in question. For this reason, the management of the project team needs to create proper strategic management plans. With these plans, they will be able to ensure that relevant approaches and steps are taken at the appropriate times to finish the project on time. If the project team hadn't considered the possibility of such events occurring and planned accordingly, it would have been far more challenging for the team to guarantee that the project would be properly finished.
When the particular project was being designed, it was vital to take into consideration the frequent changes in government that would play a major influence in the completion of the project. It is important to remember this fact. This was because there were changes in the government that affected the policies that were associated with the construction department as well as the prices of raw materials. The management of the organization was continuously pressured by the changes to make adjustments to the strategic approaches they had established for the successful completion of the project. On the other hand, if the team in charge of managing the project had developed an acceptable strategic plan for managing the project, it would have been much simpler to foresee the occurrence of similar issues in the future (Xiaopeng and Pheng, 2013). The team in charge of project management would have recognized that such frequent changes have the potential to affect the functioning and completion of the project. As a result, they would have taken efforts in advance to guarantee that the project is finished most appropriately. In addition to this, the location of KPK as a province in a strategic position plays a significant part in the successful completion of such development projects. This is because the province has recorded several earthquakes and terrorist activities taking place, both of which have contributed to a decreased interest in residing in the region by a significant number of potential residents. For this reason, when such a project is designed to encourage people to move from one location to another, the government and the management of the concerned project need to take initiatives the help which they can produce a clean image of the locality in the minds of the customers and the individuals that will be impacted by the particular project. For this reason, with the help of a strategic management plan, it would have become possible for the government and the management of the concerned project to produce a clean image of the locality in It is not possible to execute and finish such massive construction projects in KPK without first executing such marketing efforts and activities. For this reason, making use of the strategic management plan would have made it possible for the project management team to plan this ahead of time. With the help of this planning, it would have been possible for the individuals involved with the functioning and execution of the project to achieve success in the desired project.
SWOT analysis:
The SWOT analysis is a technique that helps different business managements become capable of identifying different strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that exist both internally and externally for their products and services. This can be accomplished with the help of a technique known as the "4 P's" model: strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The technique of doing a SWOT analysis is recommended for various business management since it assists in the identification of certain crucial aspects linked to the operation of the firm. This analysis must be carried out (GURL, 2017). The relevant project team or the project management can build a better grasp of the assigned project and the needs related to the project by carrying out a SWOT analysis. This makes it possible for the project to be completed successfully. When there is a greater grasp of the situation, it is easier for the project team to ensure that the proper actions are being made for the particular project. It also makes it possible for the project team to appropriately make use of the potential strengths and opportunities that exist in the environment and are available for the project team to take advantage of. This makes it possible for the project team to make appropriate use of the potential strengths and opportunities that exist in the environment. Last, but not least, the application of SWOT analysis methods makes it feasible for the management team in charge of the project to remove certain obstacles that have arisen throughout the work that has been delegated to them. This is significant because, in the long run, these disadvantages have the potential to have a detrimental impact on the project as a whole and how it is carried out. Opportunities and dangers are typically discovered from the external environment of the company, whereas the strengths and weaknesses of an organization are typically identified and based on the elements that are internal to the organization (Shabanova et al., 2015).
Strengths:
The fact that the construction project team has a set of regulatory engineering authorities present in the area is one of the particular construction project's strengths. Because these regulatory engineering authority figures have a great deal of power, the construction project team can successfully carry out certain essential steps related to the construction project with the assistance of the regulatory engineering authority figures. Additionally, the management has recognized that various organizations and teams have begun to make use of appropriate contract projects for such large-scale projects. For this reason, the management and the project team have also become involved in such a project to secure their rights for the foreseeable future. It is now clear, as a result of the progression of technology, that the management team has access to a sizable number of available workers, all of whom are readily available through a variety of mobile applications. This paves the way for the successful completion of the project. Because of the unanticipated circumstances that can arise as a result of KPK's demographics and geographics, this is a significant advantage that the company possesses. The team working on the project needs to be prepared with such labor force requirements and have people on hand who can offer them services in case they are ever required. In addition, the team in charge of managing the project has taken steps, with the help of which they have been able to develop a better understanding and ensure that the steps they are taking regarding the operation of the project, are properly inclined with the geographical and cultural circumstances that exist throughout Pakistan as a whole. As a result of this, the project management team needs to make sure that they are not negatively impacting any cultural obligations to ensure that they are not offending any of the people who come to KPK from other parts of Pakistan. Taking this into consideration is important because different people from different parts of Pakistan come to visit KPK. Last, but not least, individuals who live in KPK have the ability to work under stressful conditions; as a result, making use of the abilities that they possess has the potential to play a significant part in the successful completion of the project that is wanted.
Weaknesses:
However, some challenges need to be overcome to finish the job. The primary reason for this is that policies established by the government about construction projects have not been adequately developed. This is due to the frequent and ongoing shifts of power that have occurred within Pakistan's various governments throughout its history. For this reason, it is vital for the management of the project to identify certain actions that they may use to ensure that the activities they are doing are not in any way illegal. This can be done by making sure that certain steps are not taken. However, different people associated with the project often have difficulty in trusting one another with different aspects of the project. Nevertheless, it is important to take into consideration that the environment in which the construction project is being built requires a lot of trust between the various stakeholders of the project. This is because people do not always engage in good activities. As a result, individuals operating in Pakistan have built a negative image regarding various circumstances. As a result of this, it has become difficult for the project management team to build trust with various individuals and ensure the appropriate and correct execution of the project. This factor would have been eliminated with the assistance of a project management plan, and different persons would have been allocated distinct duties. This would have ensured that the concerned individual involved with the task is being held doubtful in an undesirable scenario.
Opportunities:
In recent times, it has been observed that the government and various parties associated with the construction industry have taken steps with the help of which they have ensured that the construction sector is provided with sufficient funds for proper functioning and appropriate execution in the long run. This was achieved as a result of the actions taken by the government and the various parties associated with the construction industry. This has been accomplished by luring a significant amount of overseas investment into the nation's building sector during the past few years. Because of this, the government has made several chances available to a variety of project management teams under the guise of the construction industry. Keeping this in mind, it is possible for the project team, via careful planning of the project, to guarantee that they are making good use of the funds that are available from the government for the completion of the project. In addition, the government has set up several training centers for the various people who are involved in the construction industry. With the assistance of these centers, the government can potentially train individuals such as contractors and engineers regarding the operation of the various aspects of the project that are associated with it. Because of the significance and usefulness of this information for various construction companies, the construction team working on the particular project would have been able, with adequate planning, to identify individuals who need training and would have ensured that they are sent to training programs that can benefit both them and the project in the long term. This is an important and helpful development for the construction industry. The workers on the project would have gained new knowledge, abilities, and approaches that would have helped them make better use of a variety of technologies during carrying out and finishing the project that was being performed. In recent times, it has been observed that various technologies have become available, with the assistance of which, individuals in the construction department have come into the position where they can potentially provide individuals associated with the project with direct feedback, even if the heads are not physically present on the construction site. This has been the case as a result of individuals in the construction department have come into a position where they can provide individuals associated with the project with direct feedback. Because employees and the project team need continuous feedback related to the various activities that they have executed in the completion of the project, this has proven to be an important tool in the execution of such major projects. This is the primary reason why this has proven to be such an important tool. The project management team would have been able to incorporate such technologies if they had effective project management plans, and the heads of the project management team would have ensured that they continuously kept a check on the different activities that the project management team was engaged in, to ensure that various risks and problems associated with the project are instantly eliminated, without significantly delaying it. In addition, the individual who was responsible would have been held accountable on time, and there would have been no need to hold up the processes for the various other people who were involved with the project.
Threats:
Last but not least, the building and construction industry faces a variety of challenges, all of which the respected project team is required to identify to guarantee the successful implementation of the many plans linked with the project. To begin, several different suppliers have been subjected to delays in the payments that have been provided to them; as a result, these suppliers are no longer ready to offer individuals and project teams raw materials and resources. For this reason, it has become essential for the team in charge of project management to have the necessary finances ready and accessible to guarantee that the necessary raw materials will be delivered on time for the project's conclusion. For this reason, utilizing an appropriate project management plan would have made it possible for the relevant team to ensure that they had constructed certain steps and made certain strategies that would have made it possible for them to continue the functioning of the project, even in unfavorable situations such as the one we are currently experiencing.
Strategic decisions:
Based on the SWOT analysis that has been conducted above, it has become important for the concerned project team to make appropriate strategic decisions inclined with the functioning and execution of the project. With the help of strategic decisions, the management of the project has the position of ensuring that the decisions they have made for the execution of the project have a lasting impact on different factors and individuals associated with the project (Elbanna, 2006). Considering the project objectives and scope, it can be seen that the project management team needs to ensure that the quality of raw material that they are putting into the completion of the project leaves a lasting impact on the environment. This is the most important decision which the management needs to take regarding the construction project, as it has been highlighted that the management is building the particular road in KPK, and because of the number of earthquakes that are experienced by individuals in KPK, bad quality roads can be destructive both for the environment and the people of KPK.
Conclusion and recommendations:
The current research study was primarily carried out with the objective of understanding and highlighting various factors that have the potential to impact the execution of such important projects associated with the strategic placement of countries and provinces like KPK. This was the primary motivation for the research. It was essential for a person to acquire the knowledge necessary to comprehend the various ways in which they may successfully finish such significant projects, typically by developing a project management strategy for its conclusion. Because the construction project that has been selected by the researcher has been an initiative in the KPK province of Pakistan, it has become important for the researcher to identify various factors that exist in the province and have the potential to impact the execution of the project in some way or another. The KPK province is located in Pakistan. It has come to our attention about the selected project that the project management team would have been in a position to guarantee that the project would have been completed without any issues whatsoever if they had made use of a variety of strategically managed project plans. This has been established through our observations.
It was determined early on in the process of compiling this report that several distinct elements, including climate, government, the availability of raw materials, and customers, are in a position to influence the functioning and the execution of various stages of the project in one way or another. These elements were identified in the initial stages of the report. In the case of raw materials, it has been observed that due to the changing government, entry, the suppliers have to continuously change the price of the raw material, because the price of the raw material is directly proportional to the cost of the raw material, which in turn is directly proportional to the price of the finished product, which in turn is directly proportional to the cost of the raw material. These are just a few of the various reasons that have been identified. Other reasons include the fact In light of these considerations, the team in charge of project management needs to make certain that they are effectively acting and preparing to increase the likelihood that the project will be completed. For this reason, it has become important for the team in charge of project management to make strategic decisions that are inclined with the requirements of the project and which ensure that different aspects associated with the project are not negatively impacted. These decisions must be made to meet the requirements of the project. This is significant because, in the absence of such decisive and significant choices, it may be difficult for the project team to guarantee that the project will be carried out and finished in the manner that is deemed to be the most appropriate.
As a result of the investigation, it has also been discovered, about the project, that several aspects exist, each of which, if exploited intelligently, is capable of contributing to the completion of the project in the best manner possible. The strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats technique is used to determine these factors. This strategy is very significant for the project team since it assists in identifying specific aspects that are present both internally and externally for the successful execution and completion of the projects. These factors can be either positive or negative. According to the findings of this analysis, it has been determined that the management has a great deal of leeway in terms of the plans that have been established by the government for the training of their contractors and engineers. For this reason, when projects of this nature are launched, it is essential for the team in charge of project management to identify specific employees who they believe are not properly executing the tasks assigned to them. This is typically accomplished through the utilization of the most recent form of technology that has been invented by various people all over the world. Through the utilization of this technology, the team of projects has become capable of surveilling the entirety of the team that is involved in the execution of the project. If the relevant personnel is identified promptly, the person in charge of the project will have the ability to guarantee that those individuals receive the appropriate amount of training to ensure that the project is effectively finished. Additionally, it has been observed that the environment of KPK is not safe for projects of this nature. As a result, it is essential for the management of the project to make preparations in advance for unfavorable situations and circumstances that may arise and have an effect on the overall execution of the project.
