Strategy implementation is the term used to describe the process or activity that ensure that a critical plan is actually executed. In the classroom environment, this process will be simulated.

STEP 1: The first step towards implementation is to define performance and success measures against the key plan objectives. Based on identified risks and CCPS, develop measures for evaluation over a period of time (life cycle).

STEP 2: Plan Implementation: Assign role and responsibilities (internal and external stakeholders as identified in the plan) and set the plan in motion. Decide;

  • How often will you meet to discuss progress?
  • Who will meet?
  • How long will the meeting be?
  • What structure will the meeting take - which reports will be used?

Once you have determined and completed the above steps, undertake the following simulated implementation activity;

Assume that the Food Safety Program has been approved by the management and reached an implementation stage. In a typical workplace environment, implementation would be a stepped process and monitored over a long period time. In a classroom environment, implementation will be simulated. For the purpose of this task, the class audience will play the role of the internal and externalstakeholders. Your trainer/assessor will play the role of the senior manager. You will be required to emulate implementation process by;

  • Calling and conducting a staff meeting
  • Communicating requirements for implementing the plan - Action plan stages
  • Key stakeholder and consultation process in implementation
  • Setting stakeholders' roles and responsibilities including setting roles for suppliers, auditors/compliance consultants, customers, staff and technical advisers etc.
  • Seeking feedback on organisational requirements and explaining the procedure for implementation, including resource requirements
  • Articulating the CCPs, and control limits for measuring the outcomes and mitigation of risks
  • Example of an uncontrolled food hazard - conduct a simulated activity assuming an incident - provide context and plan effectiveness
  • Examples of potential food safety breaches, business and compliance implications and high-risk customer groups (such as children or babies, pregnant women, aged persons, people with immune deficiencies, people with allergies, people with medical conditions etc.)
  • Plans for reviewing and improving the program
  • Articulating requirements for improvements and seeking feedback

Ensure that you take notes from the meeting, complete template provided below. Also ensure that you explain each step and seek feedback. Based on the discussion, articulate implementation process and assign responsibilities within the roleplay.

Instruct all the stakeholders to review the KPIs, strategic objectives and key actions and report back (set a time frame according to the term timetable) their actions and feedback by email (provide your email). Consolidate all the reports/feedback and add to your final report for submission.

You will be required to submit a final report summarising the meeting, audience suggestions, processes deployed for implementation and measures in place for continuous improvement. Submit along with your project documentation.
