Students will create a case study pertaining to a juvenile corrections issue in their local jurisdiction. This case study is an opportunity for students to apply the reading and what has been learned in this course to a real problem in their local jurisdiction. The basis of the case study can come from the facts from a recent judicial decision (last 5 years), an issue that their jurisdiction is facing in connection with youth offenders, or a news item pertaining to youth offenders.

In the introduction, students will introduce and summarize the case or facts and present them in a few well-organized and logically connected paragraphs. Students will then apply what they have learned in this course to propose a course of action appropriate to the context of the case/facts. Students must demonstrate critical thinking skills in analyzing, synthesizing, integrating, and drawing conclusions. Students must also support your evaluation and recommendations with evidence. Students must use a minimum of 5-8 references - AT LEAST ONE OF WHICH WILL BE AN INTERVIEW WITH A JUVENILE JUSTICE PROFESSIONAL IN THEIR AREA. The paper must be 5-7 page and must have a substantive conclusion that summarizes key points.
