LEAD.301.C1 Personal Leadership This week, we look at change mastery. In this rapidly changing world, your ability to be comfortable dealing with and leading change will set you apart. The Shackleton case is a riveting story and an excellent example of a man faced with a crisis. Be sure to read the case and watch the posted movie clips. Your first post is an analysis of the Shackleton case from the perspective of change leadership. This forum is set up as aaa question-and-answer forum, so you won't see others' posts until you post your own. Your first post should answer these questions: 1. How would you assess Ernest Shackleton's leadership effectiveness? Based on concepts we have studied in this class so far, what did he do well? Where did he fall short? Be specific. 2. Looking at Shackleton from the lens of Cashman's Change Mastery, what did he do well? What didn't he do well? Be specific and cite key points that resonate with you in the chapter. 3. What can you personally learn from Shackleton's leadership style and results?
Part Two. After reviewing the Cashman Change Mastery chapter, reflect on the questions on page 121. Subsequent posts should address any of the six questions (paraphrased below): 1. Think about times you faced a major crisis or challenge. How did you respond? What worked and what didn't? 2. When presented with a new experience, what is your first reaction? Give examples. 3. How do you react when you have invested significant time in something and it doesn't work out? What do you fear most? 4. The next time you face a potential loss, how will you cope differently? 5. How well do you focus on opportunities vs. problems, long-term vs. short term, purpose vs. circumstance, adaptability vs. control, service vs. self, listening vs. expertise 6. How agile and adaptable have you been when learning from first-time situations?
Part Three. As aaa team, work through at least three of the questions. At the end of the forum, and after a robust discussion, each person should identify at least three insights and one action you will take to be more of a change master. What would it mean to your personal leadership if you were a master in leading and dealing with change?
