Subscribe Harlan, 85 years old, is a world famous mystery novelist. He has written dozens of best sellers that he puts out through his own publishing company. While Harlan owns the publishing company, his son Walt helps him run it. Harlan is getting on in age, and his health is declining. He has hired a nurse, Marta to tend to his health and care. She is there on a daily basis and has become like part of the family. Despite his declining health, Harlan continues to write and publish 2 novels a year. However, his daughter-in-law Joni has recently accused him of forgetting to make the tuition payments for his granddaughter Meg's school. Frustrated with his family, Harlan has decided to sell his publishing company to Marta for $500, and an agreement to never sell the movie rights to any of his books and to promise to donate half the profits of his company to charity. Meanwhile, Ransom, Harlan's grandson, has gone to his Uncle Walt to ask him to invest in a new movie project that Ransom is working on. Walt invests $50,000 for a 20% stake in Ransom's movie. Ransom, has no intention of making a movie, and goes to Vegas on Uncle Walt's money and has one heck of a weekend. A few days later, at a family dinner, Harlan announces he has sold the publishing company to Marta. Ransom, still intoxicated from his Vegas weekend, then admits he blew Walt's money and there is no movie. Furious, Walt tells Ransom that he will be suing him for fraud. The family, furious that Harlan has sold his company instead of passing it down to them, accuse Marta of undue influence. What will Walt need to prove to win his Fraud case against Ransom? Does Ransom have any defenses? What will the family need to prove to win their case against Marta? What would be her defenses? What would Marta need to show to prevail? Would Harlan have a say in any of this? Rubrics
