Summary of Case StudySummary of Case Study As Johnson & Zuccarini (2010) described, this case study involves a couple, John and Amy, who have been married for six years. Shortly after getting married, Amy gave birth to twins. The couple expresses issues surrounding the frequency of sex. Amy shares that she has had little interest in sex, while John feels like giving up on the relationship altogether. Amy is critical of John viewing porn and denies his requests for sex. Amy has recently been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She feels like she has been dealing with this new diagnosis, the treatment, and raising their children alone as John has become distant. The therapist uses emotionally focused therapy (EFT) to address the couple's concerns. The therapists work with the couple to shift their view of the problem away from sex or themselves and toward their negative interactions, which they discovered began after their children were born. Additionally, the therapists work with the couple to uncover issues relating to attachment needs and how emotions are expressed or suppressed.
