"A national asthma survey on 10,978 people with asthma showed that the condition causes frequent symptoms and interferes with daily life. There is also a trend for older people with asthma to experience more problems.

The survey was conducted by Research Link on behalf of the Jin Thong Keng Hospital, the largest public hospital in Taipei, Taiwan.Questionnaires were given to people with asthma who visited the hospital's specialist outpatient clinics and pharmacies. Survey subjects were also recruited through the hospital's Facebook social media platform.

The survey found that asthma symptoms were experienced on most days or daily by 52 per cent of survey respondents; with the younger respondents below 25 years old experiencing more severe symptoms compared to older respondents in the 45 to 65 age group.

Waking every night with cough or breathlessness was reported by 10 per cent and 23 per cent said they experienced sleeplessness at least once a week. About 25 percentconsidered that asthma had a negative impact on the quality of their daily life."
