Susans Stickum Store is growing quite fast. Her product line consists of tape and glue items of various types and the associated hardware for these items. She has identified a niche market and sales are brisk. Susan looks at an inventory report each morning and decides what items should be ordered. She then gives the list to the store manager who places the orders. Susan uses three different suppliers for most of the inventory items. However, for the hardware items such as tape dispensers and hot glue guns she only orders from Acme, Inc. Susan is loyal to her vendors, but she keeps a back-up list of other vendors in case there is a problem. At times Susan will decide to add an item to her inventory list before a purchase is made.
All her vendors have payment terms of net/30. Vendors are paid within the allowed period. Susan has two checking accounts, the main account used for all external payments and a payroll account used to make the weekly payment to employees. David Hank, the Stickum Store accountant is responsible for making all payments. If more than one invoice from the same vendor are due within a three-day time period all are paid with one check, otherwise each invoice is paid with a separate check.
Required:
- Identify the entities and relationships in the above narrative and draw a REA diagram with cardinalities for Susans expenditures.
- Create a list of relational tables that correspond to the REA diagram that you prepared in Part 1. Identify primary keys (PK) and foreign keys (FK). Use Figure 3.4 as a reference.
- Submit the diagram and the table list to me as email attachments. You may use PowerPoint, Excel or Visio to do the diagram. See the three Panopto videos on how to use these. I think you will find PowerPoint the easiest to use, but you may choose any of the three. You will see Templates for REA diagrams using Excel and PowerPoint for your use under Chapter 3 Content. A Word document is probably the best option for the table list.
