In 2017, production costs per unit in China were as follows: Local components and other local costs Cost of imported components from Hong Kong Yuan 400 Yuan 500 Sales price in the U.S. US$ 150 Costs were based on the following FX rates in 2017: Yuan 8.28/US$ HK$ 7.80/US $ Let us assume that in 2018 the Yuan appreciated 20% against the dollar. The Hong Kong dollar remained pegged to the U.S. dollar. a. What will be the production costs of the camera in China in 2018, expressed in Yuan? b. If sales price is kept at US$ 150 in the US, what will be the per unit gross profit in the US in US dollars? Compare this to the gross profit in 2017. Assumptions: All the costs are expressed in the local currency, that is, Yuan in China, imports from Hong Kong have to be paid in HK$. The final product price sold in the US is in US dollars.
