Tardiness Being tardy in a work environment occurs when an employee shows up late for their scheduled work shift or failure to follow the established time schedule. This can be unscheduled absences, unscheduled early leave times, and taking longer than scheduled lunch or breaks. Time schedules are set up at work to ensure the required tasks are finished on time for that shift. That gives guidance to the employees on what schedule and duties and roles they will be at that specific time.
