Task 1: Make two thesis statements
- Young offenders people between the ages of 12 and 18 who are arrested in Canada receive special rights and protections that are not given to people over the age of 18. Do you think that young offenders should continue to receive these additional rights or should they be treated the same as everyone else, if they are arrested for a criminal offence?
- In Ontario today, many people in the workplace are facing serious issues, such as a low minimum wage, work that is restricted to part-time hours only, a lack of benefits, and last-minute shift changes without prior notice. Should the government of Ontario do more to protect employees in Ontario workplaces or would changes just cause additional problems?
reading a and b, based on several different issues that you have considered during this course, make a thesis statements that reflect your position on the topics you have chosen. Note: In your answer, number them using the appropriate letters of the alphabet given in the reading selection, to indicate which two you have chosen.
Task 2: Conduct research to support your thesis statements
Use the "Research organizer(Opens in new window)" to record and organize the research to support your position. Be sure to use credible sources.
Task 3: Make an argumentative paragraph on each of your statements
To remind you of the correct layout to use, and the correct way to embed citations in your work, remember to refer to "APAstyle(Opens in new window)." Also, remember to refer to the "Glossary(Opens in new window)" to double-check any legal terminology you use.
Task 4: Edit and revise your paragraphs
Edit and revise your paragraphs for content, spelling, and grammar, and then submit the final draft for evaluation.
Once you have written your first draft, read through it again to make sure that it all makes sense. When you make your final copy, be sure to check it again for correct spelling and grammar. (Do not rely on spell check alone: while you may have spelled a word correctly, you might have used the wrong word!) You may want someone else to read through it for you, as well as provide comments on how you might improve what you have written.
When you are sure that your product is at its best and no further revisions are necessary, submit the assignment to your teacher for evaluation.
