Task 2:

What did communism look like and how is America and Cuba working together today? It looks quite different than Canada for sure. Think about how you can get a job, buy your groceries, buy a house or rent and how much control does the government have over your life? Not that much (except there is more now, because of the pandemic) really. But in Cuba, it is very different.

1. What type of rations do they get and how often? Why do you think the government does this for the people?
2. How much do they get and is it effective?
3. What are the salaries for different jobs?
4. How well do they live?
5. What do they blame for their inability to gain wealth? And why?
6. How did it affect the people because of this embargo (an official ban on trade or other commercial activity with a particular country)?

Next the video will give you an example of two different people's lives. One left the country and moved to the USA. He left on a raft because he didn't agree with what Castro was doing in the country. Answer this question Explain his life in the US.Explain what his son and family say about his life.

Next you are going to see a tobacco farmer. Vinny Alice is the best region to grow tobacco and Diaz produces about 35, 000 pounds a year. It is a state owned cooperative system, and farmers are required to sell most of the tobacco the government and keep 10% for themselves. The farmers seem happy with the arrangement. Answer this question, What do the men from North Caroline think about the soil and about capitalism vs communism? Do you agree? Just because the soil is good to use, should you use it the way the US does?

Last thing I want you to dothis week is answer the following questions. I hope you have enjoyed learning about this and see the difference more between a communist and capitalist (modern economic) society.

1. Think of the principles and concepts of capitalism and communism. Do either of these extremes work? Can they support the common good?
2. What are solutions in terms of how best to govern and deal with the economy if people do not seem to live well or thrive under either system- left or right? Be specific.
3. In your opinion is Cuba moving in the right direction? What do they continue to need to do
