Task 2 - Vocabulary and R functions
a) What does the symbol x-bar represent?
The Symbol x-bar refers to the sample mean. As we know sample mean is average of the given data of
sample population.
b) What does the Greek letter mu () represent as it was used in this week's lessons?
The Greek letter mu () means mean of entire population. It is calculated by dividing sum of all the entire
values in the population with total number of populations.
c) What is the difference between x-bar and mu?
Difference between x-bar is it gives us average mean of sample population whereas mu gives us average
mean of total population. Sample mean is like estimate of our experiment where population mean is
actual mean of population.
Another difference between x-bar and mu is that x-bar is a statistic where we know that a statistic is a
descriptive measure of a sample on other hand mu () is a parameter which is a descriptive measure of
the population. (Yakir, 2011)
Task 3- Mean
a) Many people already know how to find the mean (average) of a sample of data by "adding all the
numbers and dividing by the number of values in the dataset."
