Task 4: De Bono's Thinking Hats (10 points) Step 1: Read the following scenario: "Imagine that you are currently working on a group assignment in one of your other courses this term (not MGMT 6064). There are seven people in your group. One of your group members is a person named D. The assignment is due in the FOL Submissions folder tomorrow at noon. During your first group meeting a week ago, everyone agreed that each person would complete his/her portion of the tasks 24 hours before the assignment deadline. By noon on day before the assignment due date, everyone would email their completed work to each other. It was agreed that you would compile all of the portions into a draft document for the team to review. Then, you would upload the team's submission before the assignment deadline the following day. Well, it is now noon on the day before the assignment deadline. The internal deadline has now arrived and D is supposed to send his completed part to the rest of the group. A few minutes ago, you received an email message from D. He wrote to say that he has recently been working extra work shifts at his part- 3 time job and wasn't able to spend much time preparing his portion of the assignment. He apologized that his work wasn't the best quality but hoped that the group would find his contribution satisfactory. You open the file that D attached to his email message and quickly scan his document. Your heart sinks - D's work is horrible. His document is filled with errors, there are no references, and his responses are too brief (they do not meet the minimum requirements that were specified in the assignment instructions). You are really upset about this. The assignment is due tomorrow at noon. Your plan was to compile the draft document this afternoon and send it to the rest of the group for a final review. You intended to spend this evening studying for an upcoming test in one of your other courses. You expected to make only minor editing changes tomorrow morning before the deadline, but the quality of D's contribution is very poor and needs significant improvement. Your grades will be negatively affected if your group receives a low mark on the assignment. You immediately contact your other group members. You and your fellow group members must decide what to do next." Step 2: You have an emergency meeting with the rest of your group to discuss the situation and prepare an e-mail response to D. During your emergency team meeting, each of your six remaining members "wears" a different-coloured "De Bono Thinking Hat'.
