Task Selection and Goal

For this activity, you will need to call upon your friends or family members and ask them to help you complete an organizational task. (You don't have to ask anyone for help or do the task. Just complete this assignment pretending you did.)

Determine what organizational task all of you will work together to accomplish.

Some possible ideas are:

• Organize your closet, bedroom, or locker
• Create an organizational calendar of assignments for your classes for the remainder of the year
• Create or organize your family calendar of appointments, social obligations, and events
• Create an organizational meal planning calendar for a month that includes meals and the groceries required for preparation
• Organize a main area in your home like the kitchen pantry, hall closet, or the garage

In considering what organizational task you want to take on, you will need to formulate a specific and achievable end goal.

For example, if you chose to organize the garage, your goal might look like this:

• We will collaborate to organize the garage in my home so that all items (tools, seasonal items, storage) are labeled and easy to locate and use.

Roles

After you have determined your organizational task and written a solid goal, you will need to assign roles to those who will be helping you. These roles will be based on what your specific tasks and goals are but, going with the garage example, your roles may look like this:

• Person A: organize sporting goods and seasonal items
• Person B: organize tools
• Person C: create labels and oversee other roles

Obviously, you can use the people's names who are collaborating with you rather than Person A, B, C. Also, collaboration is about working together as a team, so you will need to determine whether one person will assign roles or whether you will have a group discussion to determine who will be best suited for each role.

Now, it's time to get to work!

Get together with your team and make sure that everyone is clear on the end goal and the team rolesthen, get organizing!

Throughout the process, do your best to observe and take notes (mental or physical) about how the process unfolds. You will be writing a reflection when the entire process is complete, and it will be helpful to have notes from the experience that you can refer back to.

Reflection & Write-Up

After you and your group have completed the organizational task that you chose, you will need to write a reflection about the entire process.

Questions and thoughts that you should include are:

• How did you feel about this collaborative process?
• Was it easy or difficult to work as a team? Would you have preferred to work alone? Explain.
• What were some challenges of this collaborative task? What was easy?
• How did the end result turn out? Did you accomplish your goal?

When you complete your reflection, you are done! Be sure to review the following list of items that you must submit:

• Your organizational GOAL
• The ROLES of your collaborative team
• A written REFLECTION
