TED Talk managers are looking for more details on the relationship in their data. They want to mine the data for unknown correlations. Using the data provided on the top 100 TED Talks, look for the three following possible relationships.
What is the nature of the relationship between the year a video is filmed or published and the number of comments or views it has?
What is the nature of the relationship between the length of a video and the number of views or comments?
What is the nature of the relationship between the number of views and the number of comments?
Detailed Instructions:
Download the spreadsheet TED Talk Activity 5.xls Download TED Talk Activity 5.xls.
Insert two columns to the right of the Publish Date. Write a formula (=year()) that will extract the year from the film date and the film year. Label these columns appropriately as film year and publish year.
Run a correlation on the following combinations and discuss your findings.
(Note: A correlation will only be between -1(completely negatively correlated) to +1(completely positively correlated). A correlation coefficient of 0 indicates no relationship. However, a strong correlation only demonstrates that a relationship exists. It does not indicate causation. Keep this in mind with your findings.)
