However, in several instances throughout United States history (desegregation of schools, same-sex marriage, abortion) states have attempted to create laws that seem to violate the 14th Amendment. While some may argue those who do not like the laws of the state in which they reside can simply move to a different one, others would argue that the 14th Amendment guarantees equal protection to all citizens of the United States regardless of where they live. In your opinion do the rights in the Constitution apply to state laws as well as federal laws
