While the ADDIE model has 5 steps the Kemp models has 9 however, they both start out by looking at what the learning objectives are, who the audience is and their skill levels, and analyzing proposed tasks. Additionally, they both go through an evaluation process to make sure the purpose of the training and learning goals are met. The main way they differ is the ADDIE model is linear meaning you complete the steps in order and then at the end if you do not get the desired results you must start over, which can be time consuming and cost more money. The Kemp model is a circular structure meaning it is more flexible than working in the linear models. It also means the nine core elements are able to work independently and not wait on the "step" before them to be completed.
