The American Hospital Association (AHA) and Mayo Clinic both have strategic plans that work to create an atmosphere of success. While there are many similarities in these strategic plans, there are also distinct differences. Both the AHA and Mayo Clinic have plans that involve the enhancement of patient care, promote research and innovation, and refine patient experience within their facility. In addition, both of these strategic plans emphasize the importance of collaboration with other healthcare entities and professionals. While both of these strategic plans have many shared commonalities, these plans also differ in key ways. The AHA primarily focuses on technological advancement, addressing challenges within the healthcare workforce, and ensure financial stability within their healthcare system. The Mayo Clinic's primary focus is on education and research, striving for inclusion and non-discrimination, and encouragement of participation from patients in their healthcare needs. Strategic planning within healthcare organizations plays a vital role in the guidance of their goals. By setting goals, and rolling out a strategic plan, these organizations can work toward efficiency, healthy competitiveness, and continuous improvement of patient care. Healthcare differs from other types of business planning because there are so many complex components to running a healthcare entity. Healthcare organizations are a business, but they also have to consider ethical elements, work with different insurance networks, and meet the demands that serve a diverse population.
