The amount of coke in a blast furnace is 800 kg per ton of pig iron produced. The charge contains two different hematite ores. The first one (A) has a high silica content, while the other one (B) has a high limestone content. The analyses of ores, coke, and pig iron are given below. To obtain low sulfur content pig iron, the CaO/SiO2 ratio in the slag must be 1.4. The ratio of CO/CO2 in the escaping gases is 2. Calculate the following per ton of pig iron produced. (a) The weights of A and B ores. (b) The weight and sulfur content of the resulting slag. (c) The volume of the blown air. (d) The volume of the exiting flue gas. (e) The ratio of the exiting gas volume to the air volume. The ore A, ore B, and iron in the coke are present as Fe203. It will be assumed that sulfur gas is not present in the flue gases.
