Question 1: It is desired to separate a nitrogen-hydrogen mixture using a Permasep membrane Imm thick. The permeability of hydrogen is P'A = 1.65x10cm (STP).cm/ (s.cm .cmHg) and nitrogen is P', -0.031x10 10cm? (STP).cm/ (s.cm .cmHg). The feed composition is 0.35 mole fraction of hydrogen and feed rate is L=0.5x10 cm (STP)/s and the fraction cut 0.15. The pressures selected for use are p = 150cmHg and p = 80cmHg. Assuming the arrangement is cross flow, calculate the permeate composition, the reject composition and the area of the membrane required to achieve this separation Answer: X.=0.307 Y=0.593 A 1.457x10 cm
