The army conducted a live-fire training practice in a remote jungle area. Under instructions from Major Bakar, Sergeant Ramli and Private Ryan carried live bombs and ammunition from the army truck to the practicing area. While doing so, the bombs and ammunition inexplicably exploded. Both Sergeant Ramli and Private Ryan were seriously injured; together with three native people who happened to be in the same jungle vicinity looking for jungle produce and traditional herbal medicine. All five were hit either directly or indirectly by bomb fragments and as a result, had to be rushed to the nearest hospital 10km away. Unknowingly to the army, the remote jungle area was a native reserve land and home to endangered wildlife and species. Paramount Chief Adis, representing the native group, now wishes to take legal action on behalf of his peoples against the army for the personal injuries suffered and environmental damages to their land. Both Sergeant Ramli and Private Ryan also wish to take legal action and assert their rights.
