Taylor Swift slams Big Machine's new unauthorized live album as 'shameless greed' Cydney Henderson Source: USA TODAY Taylor Swift's ongoing spat with Big Machine Label Group and music executive Scooter Braun continues following the upcoming release of a new unauthorized live album. The singer, 30, has been publicly feuding with Braun since she claimed his purchase of Big Machine (and with it, the rights to her first six albums) came as an unwelcome surprise. The drama continued Thursday when Swift informed her fans that her "former label is putting out an 'album' of live performances of mine tonight" without consent. "I'm always honest with you guys about this stuff so I just wanted to tell you that this release is not approved by me," Swift wrote in a lengthy message posted to her Instagram Story. taylorswift via Instagram Stories: \"I want to thank my fans for making me aware that my former record label is putting out an 'album' of live performances of mine tonight. This release is not approved by me.\" n 'A Hey guys - I want to thank my fans for making me aware that my former record label is putting out an "album" of live performances of mine tonight. This recording is from a 2008 radio show performance I did when I was 18. Big Machine has listed the date as a 2017 release but they're actually releasing it tonight at midnight. I'm always honest with you guys about this stuff so I just wanted to tell you that this release is not approved by me. It looks to me like Scooter Braun and his financial backers, 23 Capital, Alex Soros and the Soros family and The Carlyle Group have seen the latest balance sheets and realized that paying $330 MILLION for my music wasn't exactly a wise choice and they need money 2%: In my opinion...Just another case of shameless greed in the time of Coronavirus. So tasteless, but very transparent. Page 1 of 2 Swift appears to be referring to the album "Live From Clear Channel Stripped 2008," which eagle-eyed Swifties recently noticed on the pop star's streaming service profiles, including Spotify. The album's release date is listed as 2017, but Swift said that's not accurate. "This recording is from a 2008 radio show performance I did when l was 18," Swift wrote. "Big Machine has listed the date as a 2017 release but they're actually releasing it at midnight." Swift slammed the move as "tasteless" and "very transparent," saying it's "just another case of shameless greed in the time of Coronavirus." The Grammy winner singled out Braun, who she previously called an "incessant, manipulative bully," and his associates, saying the new album is a sign of desperation. "It looks to me like Scooter Braun and his financial backers, 23 Capital, Alex Soros and the Soros family and The Carlyle Group have seen the latest balance sheets and realized that paying $330 MILLION for my music wasn't exactly a wise choice and they need money." In a lengthy Tumblr post in July 2019, Swift called Braun's acquisition of Big Machine and her masters her "worst case scenario." She said it's an example of Braun "controlling a woman who didn't want to be associated" with him. Braun and Big Machine CEO Scott Borchetta slammed Swift's comments, arguing she actually did have prior knowledge of the sale and did not "learn about it as it was announced to the world," as she wrote in the post.
