The assignment Cut-off date: 1 February 2023 - 12 noon UK time TMA 03 requires you to complete a Project proposal and Ethical approval form, which can be found in the Assessment section of the module website. There are three project proposal forms; make sure you complete the one that matches your project methodology. You must also complete a Data Management Plan. See the checklist on the next page for details of all the supplementary material you need to submit alongside these documents. You should look to design a study that uses methods you have learned on DE300, rather than simpler kinds of analyses that you may have encountered on earlier modules (such as DE200). For experiments, this is likely to be Factorial ANOVA; for survey, this is likely to be Multiple Regression or Factor Analysis; for qualitative, this will likely be discursive or phenomenological analysis. The project proposal form requires you to formally set out how you plan to conduct your research project. Your tutor will feed back on the project proposal form and you may be required to make changes to your proposal before proceeding with your research. This process of feedback and amendments is to ensure that your method is achievable within the time frame of the module and ensure that your project adheres to ethical guidelines, as set out by the British Psychological Society. The ethical approval form and the data management plan will not be graded, but you must submit them as part of TMA 03. Please note that you must not approach participants or start collecting data (including pilot data) until your tutor has formally and explicitly approved your project proposal. Note also that the outcome of the project approval process and ethics review will be communicated to you when the TMA 03 results are released. Your tutor cannot approve your project ahead of the release of TMA 03's results, so please do not ask them to do so. Checklist for TMA 03 Make sure that you submit the correct form for your project and include: Project proposal: your project summary (Section 1) project details (Section 2) your interview/focus group questions, survey questionnaire items, experimental stimuli, as appropriate: for example, any images, words, audio files or other information/items to be used as part of your study that will be presented to participants. Ethical approval form: your answers to Questions 1 and 2 your name and the date (these can be inserted electronically) your participant information leaflet and participant consent form using the appropriate template for your method specialism. The templates are provided on the DE300 module website in the Resources section debrief information, if appropriate your Data Management Plan, which you completed in Week 14 of the module. Project proposal 1. State the proposed title of your project: 2 marks 2. State your research question or hypothesis (as suitable for your chosen analysis) 3 marks 3. Provide a brief outline of your project, Indicate the type of survey you are planning, describe the type of data you will collect and indicate the type of analysis you will undertake (Word limit 200 words) 15 marks 4. Explain which psychological theories/ models your project relates to (Word limit: 100 words). 10 marks Section 2: Project details Survey project (Word limit: 700 words for the whole of Section 2) 70 marks total Please explain how you will conduct your project (using the questions below for guidance). Questions Outline how you will operationalise the measurement of your data to facilitate your analysis, i.e. use existing scales, develop a scale or other. Why do you feel your chosen method (survey) is the most appropriate for your project? What design issues may be pertinent to your potential study (e.g. measurement scale, question wording)? Outline your participant recruitment plan. Describe your potential participants (number, demographic information). Describe how you plan to recruit them (e.g. work colleagues, friends, neighbours, from Sona Systems). If you are planning to recruit a group of participants with a particular demographic or characteristic, how will you do this? Are there any participants whom you would exclude, and why? If you are planning to recruit participants by using social media or websites, please explain how. Your answers Tutor use only please explain how. Outline your proposed procedure. You are expected to use Qualtrics to design your questionnaire; please discuss with your tutor if you foresee any difficulties with this. Please include a copy of your draft survey with this assignment. How will you administer the questionnaire (e.g. online, face to face, hard copy)? What type of data will your study produce, and how will these data relate to your research question? Discuss your data analysis plan. Outline your proposed research timetable indicating approximate dates and durations of the stages of your project. Ethical approval form Important: please note the following. Your project must be approved by your tutor before you begin participant recruitment and data collection. Your tutor should electronically sign and date the final version of the Project proposal and Ethical approval form; final copies must be included with your Project report as part of your TMA 05 These forms are evidence that you have gained ethical approval for your project and that your tutor has approved your design. If you do not include the forms with your report, you will risk failing TMA 05 and DE300. In order to complete this section, you must study the ethics materials in the Week 14 website resources. In particular you should ensure that you have read pages 1-26 of the BPS's Code of Human Research Ethics.
