Instructions:

Prepare the appropriate journal entries indicated below. Each item is independent of the others. Show all calculations.

a) Record bad debt expense assuming the company experience indicates that 40% of sales are on credit and 2% of net credit sales prove uncollectible. All of the sales returns and allowances are for credit sales.

b) Record bad debt expense if an analysis of an aging schedule indicates $4,000 of the accounts receivables at the end of the year will not be collected.

c) Record bad debt expense if the companys policy requires the allowance for uncollectible accounts to be maintained at 5% of total accounts receivable.

d) Accounts totaling $1,700 were in excess of 180 days old and it was determined by the collection department that they should be written off as uncollectible.

e) An account previously written off was collected in full in the amount of $500.
