The Business Roundtable (a group of CEOs of America's largest corporations) recently issued a statement (attached below) in which they redefined the purpose of a corporation. This is a change of focus from one based on delivering value (maximum profits) to the owners or "shareholders" of corporations to one that delivers value to all "stakeholders" including the owners, employees, customers, and communities.

What do you think is the significance of this change? Should the primary purpose of a company be to maximize profits (aka maximize the value of the firm to the shareholders) or it should be much broader?
