The business world is fraught with ethical dilemmas and challenges. Some of these challenges have clear answers; others are complicated and require careful reflection. We have learned some techniques and theories that assist us in being ethical and therefore effective. Use those theories and techniques to discuss and resolve the following ethical dilemma in business: You have an open position in your company and have gone through the recruiting and selection process. A few finalists are good candidates, but none are a standout. It would take valuable time to go through the process again so you offer the job to the person who is the 'best' of the group. You call this candidate and offer the job. You agree on a start date for next week. The next day you get a call from a trusted friend who just met the 'perfect' candidate for you and insists that you meet that person. Reluctantly, you agree to at least talk with the person. This person turns out to be outstanding and this person's training, experience, personality, and values all surpass your expectations. You only have budget to hire one person.
